🗂️ How I Organise My Budget Each Week

Let’s be real—money gets stressful fast when you’re not keeping an eye on it. That’s why I do a quick weekly budget check-in every Sunday. It only takes me about 15–20 minutes, and it keeps me on track with my goals (and helps me avoid any surprise ‘how did I spend $400 on snacks’ moments 😅).

Here’s exactly how I organise my budget each week.

📅 Step 1: Pick a Weekly Check-In Day

I like doing my budget every Sunday afternoon, usually with a coffee and some music in the background. It’s chill, and it sets me up for the week ahead.

💡 N’s Tip: Pick a day that you can actually stick to. Doesn’t matter if it’s Sunday night or Tuesday morning—consistency is key.

💳 Step 2: Review All My Transactions

I open my bank apps and check what came in and what went out. I go through all my accounts and categorise the week’s spending: groceries, transport, eating out, etc. Sometimes I’m like… “Why did I spend $28 at 7-Eleven?”

💡 N’s Tip: If your bank lets you add notes or tags, use them. It makes end-of-month reviews 10x easier.

📊 Step 3: Update My Budget Tracker

I use a Google Sheets spreadsheet to track my weekly budget. Nothing fancy—just a few columns for income, fixed costs, variable costs, savings, and leftover funds.

Some people prefer apps like Pocketbook, YNAB, or Frollo. Use whatever works for you!

💡 N’s Tip: Want to try my weekly budget template? I’ll share it in a future post—stay tuned!

🎯 Step 4: Check In With My Goals

Whether I’m saving for travel, a splurge fund, or just trying to build up my emergency savings, I always check if I’ve made progress.

If I’ve underspent that week, I pop the extra into my savings account (or chuck it on my credit card if I’ve got a balance).

💡 N’s Tip: Reward yourself for sticking to your budget! I like a mini treat from Kmart or a bubble tea 🍵

🔄 Step 5: Reset for the Week Ahead

I set a fresh weekly budget, schedule any bills or transfers, and make note of any big spending I’ve got coming up (like birthdays, rego, etc.).

This step makes me feel so much more in control—it’s like clearing out the mental clutter before Monday.

✅ Final Thoughts

Weekly budgeting doesn’t have to be stressful or complicated. Once it becomes a habit, it’s just like brushing your teeth (but with spreadsheets).

Even if you start small—like tracking just one category each week—you’ll start feeling more confident with your money.
